Health Services (HHHS)

Practice where you play!  We provide a great experience in rural family medicine with a broad scope of practice including a busy emergency and acute inpatient settings.  Haliburton Highlands is a beautiful lake region on the Canadian Shield just south of Algonquin Park and east of Muskoka.   Enjoy recreational opportunities.  Enjoy fresh clean air, safe streets, the splendors of nature just outside your window with the excitement of Ontario’s key cities a short drive away.  The region is home to approximately 17,000 permanent residents and many more seasonal residents.

Family Health Team (HHFHT)

This Family Health Organization comprised of 10 physicians work collaboratively with the Family Health Team (FHT).  This regional FHT provides primary care in multiple sites and is interdisciplinary, including RN(EC), RN, RD, SW, Chiropodist, etc.  The Family Health Team works with available programs, seniors health, healthy kids, chiropodist, Ontario Telemedicine Network. Practice locations include a new family health facility completed in May 2006.  Technology has been utilized to create a paperless work environment for health practitioners.  We are a teaching practice for the Department of Family and Community Medicine of the University of Toronto, Ottawa, Queens & McMaster.

Minden Medical Clinic

Minden Medical Clinic is is part of the FHO/FHT and operates under the same business as the Haliburton Clinic. It is currently staffed with one team support, one RN or RPN, one physician on a full-time basis. The AHPs of the FHT attend the Minden clinic regularly to provide care to rostered patients (social work, NPs, PA, Dietitian, Chiropody, etc.). Other physicians usually practicing in Haliburton will provide care to their rostered patients who live closer to the Minden office, once or twice per month (currently 4 physicians rotate through).

Wilberforce Medical Clinic

Wilberforce Medical Clinic and Pharmacy is located in the municipality of Highlands East in the town of Wilberforce. This is a state of the art facility, attached to a full service pharmacy and dental office. Wilberforce is presently looking for a physician to practice at this location.

Under serviced Designation

The municipality of Minden Hills has been designated as underserviced by the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.  For family physicians who desire to practice in a close-knit community, yet enjoy all the perks of state of the art facilities and paperless charts, please contact us!  For more information about Underserviced Designation, please visit the MOHTLC website.

Other Incentives

In addition to the advantages of living and working in such a fantastic location, the County of Haliburton has committed to providing transition grants for those family physicians that are not eligible for other grants under the Under serviced Area Program.

The Family Health Team is a teaching practice of the University of Toronto, hosting family medicine residents throughout the year.  The Rural Ontario Medical Program is responsible for arranging for learning opportunities for medical students.
